Mark-McElrath-PhotoMARK McELRATH, Executive Director

Mark McElrath joined Sunrise Association in September 2015 when Horizon Day Camp launched a presence in Baltimore. He assumed the role of Vice President of Development at that time before transitioning into the Executive Director role earlier this year. Mark has spent the past 12 years in Baltimore with non-profit management roles with both local and national based organizations, including Regional Director and Major Gifts Officer positions with the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Regardless of project and scope, Mark’s focus and philosophy concentrate on building meaningful, sustainable partnerships and mutually beneficial relationships. Mark earned an undergraduate degree in Business Administration from Westminster College and a graduate degree in Sport Management from Slippery Rock University.​

 


Will-EastmanWILL EASTMAN, Director of Community Engagement

Will Eastman is Director of Community Engagement for the Sunrise Day Camp Association after first serving as founding Executive Director for Horizon Day Camp. Will’s focus centers around developing Sunrise  Association programming and community relationships across Maryland/Washington D.C., New Jersey, and New York. Prior to joining Sunrise Association, Will served as the Executive Director of the Foundation for Ethnic Understanding in New York. Will was also an Aide to Senator Cory Booker during his time as Mayor of Newark, NJ, and Will worked as a Philanthropic Consultant in the Baltimore area before joining Sunrise Association. Will was recently selected a “40 Under 40” by the Baltimore Business Journal for his work with Horizon Day Camp. A graduate of Rutgers University and its Eagleton Institute of Politics, Will currently resides in NJ with his wife and young daughter.


DR. YORAM UNGURU, MD, MS, MA, Horizon Day Camp Medical Director

Dr. Unguru is a pediatric hematologist/oncologist at The Herman and Walter Samuelson Children’s Hospital at Sinai and a Core Faculty member of The John Hopkins Berman Institute of Bioethics, Baltimore, MD.  He is also Assistant Professor in the School of Medicine, Johns Hopkins University.  Dr. Unguru earned his M.D. (valedictorian) at the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology / Bruce Rappaport Faculty of Medicine.  His M.A. with a concentration in the history of medicine and medical ethics, and B.A. in historical studies, were granted at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County.  Dr. Unguru also received a Master of Science (valedictorian) in interdisciplinary studies in biological and physical science at Touro College / Barry Z. Levine School of Health Sciences.  He completed his pediatric residency at the Children’s Hospital at Sinai and his pediatric hematology/oncology fellowship at Children’s National Medical Center in Washington DC.  Dr. Unguru was a postdoctoral Greenwall Fellow in Bioethics and Public Policy at Johns Hopkins University.  Dr. Unguru is board certified both in pediatrics and in pediatric hematology/oncology.

 


AL-MEISHA LEE BEST, Camp Director

Al-Meisha has a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from William Paterson University and is currently obtaining a Masters of Arts in Social Work at Weldon College. Prior to joining Horizon, Al-Meisha was the Camp Director of a residential camp with over 600 children in Edison, NJ for 5 years and ran summer and year-round programs. Additionally, Al-Meisha recently worked as an ABA instructor in an Autism and Multiple Disabilities classroom in Irvington, NJ. She is very excited to help grow and strengthen the Horizon community by overseeing safe and fun programs at Horizon Day Camp!

JEANINE WILLIAMS, Camp Registrar

Jeanine Williams serves as Horizon Day Camp’s Camp Registrar.  Prior to Horizon, Jeanine’s career has spanned the public, private, and nonprofit sectors and she brings a wealth of experience to Horizon. Jeanine is a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. She is a graduate of Indiana State with a Bachelors of Science in Radio, Television, and Film.​ Jeanine is a resident of Owings Mills, Maryland and loves bringing smiles to the lives of Horizon’s children and families.

Fun fact: Jeanine once built a Habitat for Humanity Home alongside President Jimmy Carter! 

 

 

FRAN SONNENSCHEIN, Horizon on Wheels Coordinator

Fran Sonnenschein is the Horizon on Wheels Coordinator.  Her professional career includes Director of Community Day Camps, Ottawa’s BBYO and JCC Teen Director and the past twelve years as Associate and Program Director of BZD. She has vast experiences in program development, volunteer engagement and community outreach.  Fran feels strongly the Horizon on Wheels hospital program plays an instrumental role helping to provide children with cancer the opportunities of fun, support and love! ​
